Hi, I downloaded gnaural. The first bug seemed to be missing the x11 lib. I installed the xquartz package, that solved the initial crash. But when I start gnaural now, I don't see anything happening: not even a crash report. It just opens and closes... Any idea's how to proceed from here?

Hi, Assuming you are discussing the MacOSX version, it seems from many reports like this that the latest versions of MacOSX already will not run binaries compiled for MacOSX 10.7. Which is very disheartening, as it just took the weeks of effort to procure a Mac (I use Ubuntu) and set it up to compile that free software. Sadly, previous versions done that same way (all listed here http://gnaural.sourceforge.net/download/) lasted for at least for a couple years in the past (In contrast, the first Gnaural for Windows compiled 10 years ago will still run on current Windows).

The only suggestions I have (at least until someone who owns a Mac compiles the Gnaural code to spec for current machines) would be one of these:

    1) If you just need to play Gnaural files (i.e., not edit them), the Java version should do the job:
    http://gnaural.sourceforge.net/GnauralJavaApplet/

2)Try both the 10.5 and 10.7 versions on this page:
    http://gnaural.sourceforge.net/download/

    3) Gnaural is a native Linux program, so running Linux in VirtualBox will usually (depending on the distribution you pick) allow one to install Gnaural from that distribution's package manager with a single-click. For example, if you run Ubuntu:
    http://www.getdeb.net/software/gnaural
    If you choose Fedora:
    https://apps.fedoraproject.org/packages/gnaural

I am running 10.8.5 and I cannot get it working. I have the same problem. I installed xquartz and then gnaural and the app just opens and closes. I have 10.6 on another drive and booted from there, same problem.

I do have Parallels with an Ubuntu machine and trying to install i there I run into a whole other host of challenges just trying to install it since I am not a Linux person. I downloaded gnarual for Linux and don't know which file to open. I tired insalling with getdeb and Firefox does not know what to do with the file and from a myriad of requiremens to make that work I don't understand any of them. I cannot get it to even install, so Ubuntu on a VM is not an option for me and probably most Mac users.

If you could help me complile a new version on my Mac and help me get the files back to you so you can post a new version I and the other Mac users would be greatful. I can also boot into Yosemite and compile there if necessary. But I have no Mac dev experince so I am just offering my machine and time if you can instruct over Skype or something.

Very kind offer to try to compile, but alas, it's a very big process (not just Gnaural needs compiling, but tons of other support libraries too; that's why they MacOSX binaries are so huge). The good news: All the endless multi-platform problems have finally resulted in a broad solution allowing the same binary to work for all desktop platforms: porting Gnaural to Java. And it is already working and available, see here for more information:
