The latest version of gMKVExtractGUI, 1.6.3, does not work for me now that I have upgraded to the latest version of MKVToolnix, 8.5.1. gMKVExtractGUI 1.6.3 came out on September 20th. MKVToolnix 8.5.1 came out on October 21.

gMKVExtractGUI 1.6.3 worked fine with MKVToolnix 8.4.0, which came out 1 day before it, on September 19th. Looks like it's time for a new version again.

The specific error message is a dialog box that says at the top "gMKVExtractGUI has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." At the bottom it says "If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost." This dialog box comes up immediately when gMKVExtractGUI 1.6.3 is launched and has just 1 button, a Close button, and after I click it, the program closes without any further error messages or dialog boxes besides that one.

Ah, it seems this is because the installer for both 8.5.0 and 8.5.1 of MKVToolNix deletes gMKVToolnix.dll from the MKVToolnix directory, but does not delete gMKVExtractGUI.exe or gMKVExtractGUI.ini. So the easiest way to solve this incompatibility issue would be for the next version of MKVToolNix to stop this practice of deleting gMKVToolnix.dll, rather than any change to gMKVExtractGUI.

Then again, you could make the error message when the .dll file is missing more self-explanatory (for instance, it could say "Required file gMKVToolnix.dll missing, please reinstall gMKVExtractGUI." or something like that). This would help people understand what is wrong.

But the problem itself needs to be fixed by the developer of MKVToolNix. I have posted a comment on the MKVToolNix blog requesting this to be fixed, although it is awaiting moderation and has not yet appeared.

Oh, and you should change the capitalization from gMKVToolnix.dll to gMKVToolNix.dll to match the main project's capitalization... note the capitalised "Nix".

It is a known issue, as reported here http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1743648#post1743648

Please make any comments for the development in the doom9 forum thread. Thanks!
