[gl4java-usergroup] No errors, but no display in canvas

Hi
Running an applet such as the 'gears' demo, there appears to be no errors or exceptions thrown (console contains only 'init(): gears$gearsCanvas[canvas0,0,0,400x354]'), but the area where the gears should display is just a blank gray canvas. Has anyone had this problem before? The machine itself seems to be OpenGL-ready, at least the OpenGL screensavers work...
