Hello, 1st step : my GL4 window is overlaped once by another window that come front of it. 2nd step : i put the GL4 window front. 3rd step : Only the part that was overlapped is refreshed with sDisplay. To go back to normal, I need to resize the frame. Is it any other solution please ? NB: I use MyCanvas extending GL4 Anim canvas, in a MyApplet extending JApplet, in MyFrame extending JFrame. This problem don't seems to occur on PC platform. Thanxs. ------------------------- Jean-Yves BRUD - Palahou 31330 Larra - FRANCE mailto: jea...@wa... |

Well, the protected access-specifier for the attributes : GLFunc gl GLUFunc glu GLContext glj are provided, because of the "privacy" and "read only" for foreign packages. Well, I guess we can change protected -> public, if we do not want to save the attributes from writing by foreign packages - OR we can create a getGL(), getGLU() and getGLJ() method ! Hi! Appended to this list is a new GL4Java FAQ. As you can see, there are many uncertain and unanswered questions - if anyone knows (for implementation details, I think Sven is the man who would be best to answer), please let me know. When it'll be corrected, I'll put it on web and I'll send announcements to this list whenever an update will be made. Of course, it's for everyone's profit, so new questions, answers and corrections are HIGHLY NEEDED. Bye, Max |

Well - I guess you mean the package gl4java/utils/textures ! This depends on WHEN gerard ports the new version ... BUT, you can download the png java library AND the gl4java*-jar.zip file from jausoft.com, where you have to put the png library into your classpath. Then you have to extract the gl4java jar archiv and fetch the package gl4java/utils/textures, which must be put in your classpath either ! the png texture feature is 100% pure java. I am very sorry for the delay. But the font support within the next GL4Java version will be done on the 6th February 2000 ! Interesting idea. Does it allow to freely mix GL and AWT drawing (probably drawing AWT on top of GL)? How about refreshing such a window? Bye, Max |

DEAR PAULSISK, is this your name ? I do cc this response to the gl4java mailinglist. Bug- and Problem Protocol ========================== If sombody has a bug / problem, please send a compileable piece (100-200 lines) of code, which documents your problem ! Also send some information about the version (GL4Java, OS, OpenGL renderer, ...) ! debugging gljswap ================== Well, "GLContext.gljSwap" calls its native method "GLContext.gljSwapNative" which is defined e.g. in "CNativeCode/OpenGL_X11.c" or "CNativeCode/OpenGL_Win32.c" ! This function just calls glxSwapBuffers, or SwapBuffers, etc.. To be able to call "gljSwap", you must own a valid GLContext. Please look into the demos and the docus (latex/html docu&java-api). Example: ======== public void display() { if(glj.gljMakeCurrent(true) == false) { return ; // error } /* your render stuff for one frame */ glj.gljSwap(); glj.gljFree(); } paulsisk wrote: > > I am developing an application using your gl4java package. Actually rendering of scalable fonts can be done pretty easily, if you're not too concerned about quality. See the attached example. By the way, does Java use TrueType fonts? If so, how can one get at the extra rendering information necessary to render fonts at small sizes? Can't you just pass gl and glu as parameters to your rendering function? The way I did it is I wrote a class that extends java.awt.Graphics that takes gl and glu as arguments to its constructor, and this new Graphics object is passed as argument to all my rendering functions. The reason I decided to extend Graphics is just so that existing classes written to render using pure JDK methods can now render OpenGL with no changes ;) -- Pontus Lidman, po...@ma..., Software Engineer No matter how cynical you get, it's impossible to keep up. Hi! In my application I need variables gl and glu in GLCanvas public instead of protected. It is needed for remote rendering possibilities - for example: //class in package opengl public class GLViewport extends GLCanvas { private ClassThatDrawsObjects ctdo; public void display() { //setup ctdo.drawMyself(this); } } //class in package geometry public class ClassThatDrawsObjects extends SomeOtherNeededClass { public void drawMyself(GLViewport viewport) { viewport.gl.glBegin(viewport.GL_TRIANGLES); viewport.gl.glVertex*(...); ... viewport.gl.glEnd(); } } so when program reaches display() method it calls method drawMyself() in some other class and this class performs rendering (it needs GLFunc to do so). Have I made myself clear? :-) Is there any better way to do so? I need this because in my modeler I want each object to draw itself. Comments? Sven, how do you think? Max |

I would prefere to see the GLTT library for TrueType-Font rendering being implemented ;-) May be I will find some time sometimes to implement. Really, these fonts looks much better ... Dear GL4Java users, I ask you, if you are able to support the GL4Java project with hardware / software / machine access / porting ! We do need access to machines / OS, like: - IRIX (SGI) - Solaris - HP-UX - Macintosh with the common OpenGL hardware/drivers ! If you are interesting in, and able to help porting GL4Java to these platforms, please let me know. You can: - send me your hardware / software as a donation for the GL4Java work. This request's purpose is NOT to make me rich ;-), but I am not able to buy me all these machines ... - give me access to your machines via ssh (secure shell), including access to your machines X-Server, to test your machines GLX module. ( I know that my GLX module (linux) runs very well ;-) - port GL4Java by yourself, test it with all the demos, and send me the binaries ! Thanxs in advance ! Let me translate his request (shortly): > I must port my gl4java application to IRIX and HP-UX in the near future. > Does there exists any actions, etc. to port GL4Java to these platforms ? Well, the IRIX implementation is nearly done, we (Lee Elson and Martin N Norton (webwinds / Nasa)) found out, that we need an own overlayed windowd on IRIX for double-buffering :-( May be this not needed on all IRIX machines ... I will add support for this in the GL4Java-GLX code in february. HP-UX support was never tried, as far as I know. I hope that there are no strange behaviors, like on IRIX. Because I have neithe an IRIX nor an HP-UX machine, nor an MACintosh, I need your help for porting - and I will help you either. E.g. Gerard Gziemski is doing the port for Macintosh and Lee Elson is doing the port for IRIX and Solaris. In the next message, I will ask you for supporting me with machines ;-) Yours, Sven Erik Unger wrote: > > Hi, > > Ich muss meine gl4java Anwendung bald nach IRIX und HP-UX portieren. > Gibt es bezüglich HP-UX schon irgendwelche Versuche/Bestrebungen, > oder muss ich die Portierung alleine angehen ? > > -Erik Unger -- mailto:sgo...@ja... www: http://www.jausoft.com voice: +49-521-2399440, +49-170-2115963; fax: +49-521-2399442 |

Now I have tested the Method glGetIntegerv(GL_STENCIL_BITS,...) with GL4Java Version 2.1.3.2 and: - WinNT 4.0 + Matrox G200 OpenGL Stencil bits are 8 Color bits are 5 - WinNT 4.0 + NVidia GeForce256 + Elsa X2 OpenGL Driver Stencil bits are 0 Color bits are 5 - Linux + NVidia GeForce256 + NVidia GLX 1.2 Mesa 3.0 OpenGL Driver Stencil bits are 0 Color bits are 5 - Linux + Mesa 3.1 Soft OpenGL Driver Stencil bits are 0 Color bits are 5 So I guess it is about the Stencil capabilities of the gfx-card and the driver.
