The current icon is okay, but IMHO it's not as pretty as the one we had previously.
I think the previous icon was derived from this .svg: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/45/The_GIMP_icon_-_gnome.svg
...well, icons are just a matter of taste.
I've changed the icon intentionally to make it clear, that "GIMP on OS X" is somehow different to other GIMP application bundles out there.
BTW, the current icon uses this svg too as a basis ;-)
And, feel free to create a new icon and share it here...
For more information about creating icons for OS X, please read the Apple Human Interface Guidelines: http://developer.apple.com/documentation/userexperience/Conceptual/AppleHIGuidelines/XHIGIcons/chapter_15_section_1.html
I don't know how to add or attach files to SourceForge because it's a bit of a pain to work with, however, I have uploaded a few new icons. The .zip folder contains all of the sources, the exported pngs, the icns files, and the new document files as well.
Credit for the "Normal" icon goes to whoever created the icon on wikimedia (here is the source http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_GIMP_icon_-_gnome.svg"), and credit for the faenza icon goes to the creator of the faenza icon set, one Matthieu James (http://tiheum.deviantart.com/).
Here are the icons. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/942685/Gimp%20Icons.zip
