OTOH, a stable Debian release is closer to being bug-free than anything
else I've seen.  Testing takes time.

Certainly they should mention one another in their extended descriptions,
but is either one useful if you've already installed the other?  Maybe so:
you'd want the gimp plugin version for extra control when printing photos,
and the gs version for getting decent output from abiword and the like.
But I'd still think twice before having them suggest each other.
