I think the project should provide the lowest layer of a printing
system to any project that wants to use it. This meens accepting
a bitmap, dithering it and generating the neccesary printer commands.
Ghostscript, gnome-print, kde-print (if it exists) and other projects
can all use it.
Communication to different front ends would go through small glue 
libraries.
