   I would actually love to be able to look at the size and shape
   of the dots in a microscope. Does anyone have access to such a
   device and can digitize images from it? :) 

For most of them, at any rate.  Maybe not the newer ones.  I've
inspected it with an 8x loupe, and it's very noticeable.
