I think I also found the reason for the white bar in the image I submitted yesterday (the microweave test case): The printer does great, the dithering algorithms are getting better by the hour.=20 My last test will be to print the test image with the EPSON driver and compare it to the six 720dpi/variable dot size prints I've done using all six dithering methods. All I can say for now is that they are all considerably better than=20 what I've seen from the GhostScript uniprint driver. >=20 > And even the uniprint driver in ghostscript dithers less good > than the Epson supplied Windows drivers (a friend tried it for > me because I don't have Windows9~). >=20 > After experimenting a while I noticed that the print output > of gimp is not reproducable: as if something is really going wrong. > Suddenly the white background turned into black (lots of ink...). > When the same picture is printed to a file multiple times the > output tends to shrink in size: >=20 > -rw-r--r-- 1 fvm sec 267562 Apr 24 19:04 720hq-postcard > -rw-r--r-- 1 fvm sec 224692 Apr 24 19:05 720hq-postcard2 > -rw-r--r-- 1 fvm sec 181367 Apr 24 19:06 720hq-postcard3 > -rw-r--r-- 1 fvm sec 145868 Apr 24 19:08 720hq-postcard4 > After restarting gimp: > -rw-r--r-- 1 fvm sec 690102 Apr 24 19:43 720hq-postcard5 > -rw-r--r-- 1 fvm sec 561821 Apr 24 19:45 720hq-postcard6 > -rw-r--r-- 1 fvm sec 470567 Apr 24 19:46 720hq-postcard7 > -rw-r--r-- 1 fvm sec 392459 Apr 24 19:47 720hq-postcard8 > -rw-r--r-- 1 fvm sec 331625 Apr 24 19:47 720hq-postcard9 > -rw-r--r-- 1 fvm sec 281019 Apr 24 19:48 720hq-postcard10 >=20 > Settings in file->print menu: > printer: Epson Stylus Color 740 > Media size: postcard > Ink type: single dot size > Resolution 720 DPI High Quality >=20 > Now this is really bizarre.
