   I run two test jobs this morning: The 720dpi/softweave/variable dot
   size job looks the same as before, if I run the same job with fixed
   dot size then I get the "blank page" behavior: Printer does some
   vertical movement, makes some sounds and then spits out the page 
   without any horizontal head movement or ink on the paper.

grr...OK, I'm going to back out that "fix" for now...

I suppose it would be worthwhile running something through gs with the
appropriate upp file to see exactly what IT does.
