   That's not entirely true.  The printer is initialized to expect a particular
   bit depth with the "ESC ( e" command.  When the command is called with
   0x10, the printer is put in multibit mode, with lower numbers it's single
   bit.  I expect there's some register in the printer that gets set to
   remember the bit depth.

I lied.  I checked in the fix.  Karl Heinz, could you retest this?
