I just committed the first steps in this direction.  I generalized the 
logic in the PPD generator to get the command filter name and the list 
of supported commands out of internal configuration variables, instead 
of blindly exporting support for 'commandtoepson' with an implicit (and 
incorrect) list of supported commands if the printer name included the 
string 'EPSON'.

I used the same variable mechanism to finally hook up cups command 
support to the dyesub family, and I can confirm it works on the models 
that I can access remotely right now.  Huzzah!

Next up will be to try and bridge escputil consumable & status queries 
into the commandtoepson backend.
