However, there is no official gutenprint ported to Windows as far as I know. So I guess you are using an unofficial and possibly old port someone else built? I would defer to others with more experience, but I would say if you are using Windows, use the Windows driver from Canon, that is the official best way to use the printer's capabilities. Drivers are available from Windows 2000 all the way up to Windows 10. In any case, to explain about gutenprint for future reference, the resolution is a "mode" not a number. So it is something like "600x600 DPI Standard" or "600x600 DPI HIGH (GLOSSY PHOTO PAPER)" for example. The printhead resolution is only 600x600 dpi. Multiple passes and fancy ink jet algorithms are used to give the appearance of a higher "effective resolution" which is what the manufacturers put on their brochures.
