Where did this unnamed tarball come from?  And why is downloading the 
most recent tarball from our web site not an option?

Meanwhile, building from git is actually more complicated than building 
from the distribution-prepared tarballs, as it requires _more_ tooling, 
not less.

Either way, you will need to fix those missing dependencies before you 
can successfully compile Gutenprint.  (Note, some dependencies are for 
optional components and can be safely ignored, but generally speaking, 
if the configure script actually errors out, something essential is 
missing)
