The CP-D80DW should work okay with the version of Gutenprint bundled 
with Raspbian Buster (v5.3.1).  There have been bugfixes since then, but 
they would not be responsible for the issues you are encoutnering.

I wonder if it's a matter of an older error being cached, with the

Try running 'cupsenable --release mitsubishi-d80d'

Both the '8bpp' and '16bpp' test jobs succeed?

'backend_data' is not for PPD files; that is where selphy_print installs 
the data files needed by the backend.

Hmm, this is an oversight in the lib70x makefiles.  I will correct that.

What is the output of './mitsu70x -s' ?
