When you set the CUPS log level to debug, just make sure you set the file size to a large enough byte level (10MB or more maybe). If you restart CUPS before doing your test maybe the log is rotated (not sure) so you can start with a clean log. Then hurriedly print the job and either stop CUPS or copy the log file so it does not fill up more with the periodic CUPS messages. You should easily find the messages regarding filters, and you can always delete irrelevant CUPS messages in the copied log file to make it more manageable. Hope that helps.
