Hello, Follow-up to my own post, with more information. 1. Specifications I don't know the difference between the various BL-10 models. So far I am aware of: BJ-10ex, BJ-10sx, BJ-10v (Japan), there may be others (see below). The BJ-10sx appears to be Monochrome (Black ink) only, and prints with a 360dpi standard rather than 300 or 600 dpi. It appears that there are plenty of older BJ-* series models which do not appear on the driver lists of the Canon sites. 2. Emulation capability I found the user and service manuals online, only managed to look at the user manual so far. Here from the user manual: Two resident printer control modes allow the printer to emulate other printers: BJ-10e mode provides emulation of the Canon Bubble Jet printers as well as the IBM proprinter X24E, an Epson LQ mode provides emulation of the Epson LQ-510 printer. This means your printer is compatible with a wide variety of software applications including those that support the Proprinter X24E and LQ-510, as well as any of the other Canon Bubble Jet printers (BJ-10e, BJ- 10ex, BJ-20, and BJ-130e). 3. Drivers I could not find any drivers on the Canon sites in Japan, the US or Europe. However, it seems the Windows driver from Microsoft bundled with Windows can print on this device, although some of the options the Canon driver would offer will not be available. There are some Win95 and win98 drivers downloadable online from non-Canon sites. I am wary of such, but will try to find time to test them in a clean Windows XP virtual machine unconnected to any external network, where malware will do little harm (I hope). 4. Printjobs These are needed to reverse engineer the correct commands for the gutenprint driver, and usually I obtain these by printing to a file under Windows. Since currently I do not have any working drivers at hand, I cannot say what the chances are of getting this device supported. However, my advice for now is to try various gutenprint drivers where the resolutions offered are in the 360dpi ballpark (90, 80, 360, 720 dpi modes). I can't give you specific models right now but should be able to find time tonight. May I ask how you are still managing to access supplies (ink carts) for this printer? Regards, Gernot Hassenpflug |
