Looking at the specs for this thing, it claims to natively support AirPrint which implies IPP-Everywhere -- along with its builtin wired/wireless networking support, should JustWork(tm) with semi-modern Linux (and Mac) systems. If that's not good enough, and you need Gutenprint's feature set, I'd expect getting the printer working will be straightforward (specs imply ESC/P2, 10 ink channels, 180 nozzles per), but in that ink set there's a new violet ink that would need to be added to gutenprint, and of course a decent amount of ink would need to be expended to tune the overall output until it's of sufficient quality. There was a discussion about this printer back in October/November 2021, but I don't think anything meaningful came of it. Supposedly the P800 driver worked reasonably well, though it lacked the full ink set. - Solomon -- Solomon Peachy pizza at shaftnet dot org (email&xmpp) @pizza:shaftnet dot org (matrix) Dowling Park, FL speachy (libra.chat) |

FWIW, the P900 supports AirPrint so the usual driverless support on Linux/macOS will work. > On Mar 30, 2023, at 6:56 PM, Marius Steffen <ma...@ma...> wrote: > > Hi, > > I’ve just got a new Epson SC-P900 and noticed there’s no support in Gutenprint for it - is there anything I can provide you with to add support for it? > > Greetings, > > > Marius Steffen > ma...@ma... > > > > _______________________________________________ > Gimp-print-devel mailing list > Gim...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gimp-print-devel ________________________ Michael Sweet |

Hi, I’ve just got a new Epson SC-P900 and noticed there’s no support in Gutenprint for it - is there anything I can provide you with to add support for it? Greetings, Marius Steffen ma...@ma... |

In macos 12.6.1 Monterey, I added a file printer using the Canon MX860 driver. I did not experience the dimmed out Print button. I would suggest that you use the System Preferences ---> Printers & Scanners, delete any print queue you already have for the MX860 and add the printer again. If you are using one of the newer computers that has the M1 or M2 chipset, you will need to have Rosetta installed. Gutenprint is a set of drivers and not an application so you would not be prompted to add Rosetta. You would need to install Rosetta using the Terminal (Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app. Enter sudo /usr/sbin/softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license and hit Enter Enter you administrator's password when asked and hit Enter. Nothing will appear on the screen as you type it. I hope this resolves your issue. Matt |

Hi again, I just installed Gutenprint 5.3.3. When I try to print, the window says “no printer selected", and the “print” button is dimmed out, so I can’t print. My computer doesn’t recognize my printer - but the same was true when I used Gutenprint with my previous OS - and everything worked. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Hi, I’ve been using Gutenprint 5.3.3 on my Mac for my Canon MX860 printer. Worked great.. I erased the hard drive and installed OS Ventura 13.1 and now I’d like to use Gutenprint 5.3.3 on the new system. Can I just download and install it? Thanks! Dan |

Hello, I have Manjaro Linux and the latest Gutenprint. When I print with it, the images just get too small no matter what I do. I have to set the scaling to 106% before, then the size is right. Do you know the problem? What can be done? If I uninstall Gutenprint and then the prints get exactly the size they should. Strange. Schöne Grüße von Michael |

Let me test the driver for some time. It could be that you had been using an older version of Gutenprint or perhaps something else went wrong in the transfer. You should be able to just install the current version of Gutenprint 5.3.3 to solve the issue. gutenprint-5.3.3_rev.dmg <https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/files/gutenprint-5.3/5.3.3/gutenprint-5.3.3_rev.dmg/download> If your new computer uses Apple's own processor, you will have to have Rosetta installed. Dear Developer, I tried to install my MG3080 inkjet printer on Ubuntu. Firstly I had added the printer with the default driver Gutenprint 5.3.3 before I found the B of RGB a bit deeper blue. Then I installed the official Canon driver then I found the color is much better. So I think there may be some issues with the Gutenprint driver. The attachments are the files I scanned for reference. [image: Canon.png] [image: Gutenprint.png] Best regards, Ray 2022-10-1 |

Well, what I said is basically interpretation of what Mike says - in case you need further functionality, write/use a printer application (basically future term for printer driver :) ) - there is even a legacy printer application which accepts filters and PPDs once you upload them into it. It seems you've misunderstood the change - PPD support are going away from CUPS, but not from OS - they move to printer applications (which are already written for existing driver packages in Ubuntu), so you still can use old PPD on Linux. The printer application translates all the PPD stuff into IPP and CUPS automatically picks it up via mDNS on localhost (it is not shared on public IP, only on your localhost address). This way PPD support in Linux stays, CUPS doesn't have to check every change it does whether it works with PPDs and do the option transformation from PPD to IPP and vice versa and can focus on implementing newer IPP features meant for enterprises and better user experience. Any new model support should be written as a native printer application instead of classic PPD though, since the current printer application are meant for retrospective support (models with PPDs for Linux to keep working with PPDs). Gutenprint here will be the first one with native printer application so far :) > > Doing away with ppd's is a bad idea. The clue was my net bill which for my use runs about 30G a month, and did not hit my limit which is close to a TB a month, but I noticed that it was up to around 80G a month. So I finally found the pw and logged into dd-wrt to find a strange lease so I bounced him. Back in 5 seconds, he had some cracking thing on his cell so his traffic to net surf didn't show on his cel bill. I made a new 25 char pw, bounced him, back in 30 secs. So since I wasn't actively using it, I turned off the radio. I have one of those $100/yr cel phones, normally turned off. I keep it charged so it ready to go if I decide to goto to some kin of my wife for a day or 2, something I can yell for help with if my old ford runs into trouble. Suddenly I couldn't keep it charged, something was turning it on by remote without making a sound locally but using up the battery. I quit trying to keep it charged. He was a mailman but is now in jail for non-delivery. they raided his place and found half a ton or more of undelivered mail, still in uspo carry bins in his garage. So peace has returned to my locale. But during his reign I had to turn of the radios in everything here to keep him out. At one point he was coming in thru the radio in the rpi4b I run my big lathe with. Quite a game of cat and mouse. In the last couple months I've added a couple rock64's to the local net, to run 3d printers with but I've not enabled either ones wifi. Much saner life w/o it. So 100% of my net is wired. No microphones plugged into any these machines either. And in case you don't want to use mDNS, you can still install the printer permanently via IPP port and get the options via IPP as AirPrint can do (however you lose the automatic installation...), so in that case the attacker would have to get into your network and find out printer's IP or hostname (because mDNS doesn't advertise anything). > > Get rid of cups-browsed, and brothers own drivers can use every > feature these printers have, > including excellent color re-production on good paper. >> IPP device uri you can probably use (if it doesn't work, check your >> printer's manual for proper uri): >> >> ipp://<IP/hostname>:631/ipp/print >> >> where <IP/hostname> is printer's IP or its hostname. >> >> Only if Airprint does not work or its set of options do not match >> your needs, I would recommend using classic Brother driver. >> >> >> Zdenek >> >> On 8/18/22 12:15, Superma wrote: >>> Dear all, >>> >>> I try to make my brother MFC-J6720DW printer running with CUPS on my >>> NEXTCLOUDPI Rasperry. >>> >>> I have already tried with the following print drivers: >>> >>> * Brother MFC-9600 >>> * Generic IPP Everywhere Printer >>> * Brother MFC-6550MC >>> * Brother MFC-8300 >>> * Brother MFC-9500 >>> * Brother DCP-1200 >>> * Brother MFC-9840CDW BR-Script3 >>> >>> Everytime I am getting the same / following result: >>> >>> 1. Hi, the device supports Airprint, so I would go for IPP Everywhere, just don't use lpd:// connection if you want Airprint to work (needs IPP port on the printer to be enabled). IPP device uri you can probably use (if it doesn't work, check your printer's manual for proper uri): ipp://<IP/hostname>:631/ipp/print where <IP/hostname> is printer's IP or its hostname. Only if Airprint does not work or its set of options do not match your needs, I would recommend using classic Brother driver. It works well here on my home network, and my rpi4, and a pair of rock64's, all armhf or arm64's can all use my 2 printers. The big one just happens to be the same as yours. This is a 6 core i5 machine, so I can't say if they have drivers for arm's. But my arm stuff can see, and use either printer. Just as if it was local to that machine. > Thank you very much for your help. > > Manuel > > > > _______________________________________________ > Gimp-print-devel mailing list > Gim...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gimp-print-devel Cheers, Gene Heskett. -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. The XML files look like duplex should be enabled. Hi Robert.K, The driver i was using didn't have duplex in the ppd (that i could find). So i was looking at other drivers and wondering how to find the best match to the printer. >> Where do i find what these numbers mean ? > > Those refer to the page margins if duplexing is enabled, in points. > >> Where do i find what is allowed in any of the xml files ? > > Unfortunately, the only documentation is in the contents of the files and the code.
