The libusb files are used for dye-sub printers only. You don't need any of the files and may delete them. I see nothing in it where I can confirm it is supporting Pixma MX 922. But tis’s there, I presume it is the needed driver. Why if that not being found when I try to set up this printer? The printer should appear in the list of available printers when you go to add it through Printers & Scanners. You actually don't need to have drivers installed for it to be recognized and listed. You could use System Profiler or System Information app (/Applications/Utilities/System Profiler.app) to double check the presence of the printer. Launch the app and highlight USB in the left side. If the printer is recognized by the computer, it should appear somewhere on the right hand side. If it isn't there, then there is a communication problem between the printer and the computer that will have to be resolved. Be sure you are using the USB port on the back of the printer. The USB port on the front is for a USB memory stick. Also make sure the USB cable is not properly inserted. Matt |

I’ve just installed your Gutenprint 5.3.3 on my computer, running macOS 10.13.6, High Sierra. When I opened it, I saw the 6 files in it, including the installer, but also another one named libusb—1.0.22.high_sierra.bottle.tar.gz. I proceeded to install gutenprint-5.3.3.pkg. I then opened (decompressed) libusb—1.0.22.high_sierra.bottle.tar.gz, since I running High Sierra. It just puts out a lot of files. What is that for, what am I to do with those files? Or, is that just something the installer will use when it sees it is installing to High Sierra? I restarted the computer, just to be sure. I then went to try to set up my Canon Pixma MX922, which your Website said is supported by Gutenprint 5.3.3. The printer is turned on, I am connected with a USB cable (which works fine on my Epson, so it is a good cable). But when I click in the System Preference pane Printers & Scanners, the Canon is not listed under the Printers list on the left. OK, maybe when I seek to add it. I clicked on the + sign, the window to add it opened, but it is blank. (It is opened in the Default tab. But neither the IP tab nor Windows tab appear to be pertinent.) I can’t put anything in the spaces other than the search bar at top. I put in “Canon Pixma MX922“ and ran the search. It came up with nothing, not even your driver. I’m dead in the water on this. Why is your driver not being found? What do I need to do. I was expecting what it meant by printer not seen was that it had no driver. The printer is connected with a known, good USB cable. I note, I checked under /Library/Printers/ and I do see Gutenprint.printer Driver folder int here. I see nothing in it where I can confirm it is supporting Pixma MX 922. But tis’s there, I presume it is the needed driver. Why if that not being found when I try to set up this printer? Thank you. Kevin |

Hello! My name is Juda I have an Epson printer of the model Epson SureColor F170 It is a modified version of the Epson L4260 Ecotank, at least it looks like I wanted to install on my computer using cups or gutenprint, but i could not find the specific driver I can use the driver for the L4260 or similar, but they lose precision in printing I can install also the specific driver for F100 or F170 with turboprint for linux, but i need to pay a license for use it Yes i could use the 30 day trial of the turboprint, but it has a watermark and i need to use the entire page. Glad if you could help me and guide me The Printer https://epson.com.br/Para-empresas/Impressoras/Impressoras-de-Grande-Formato/Impressora-Epson-SureColor-F170/p/C11CJ80202 |

That dates back to the before times, when the codebase was a standalone command line raster image processor. This came up not too long ago, but I can't seem to find the message in my archive and sourceforge's search features are worthless. I looked at the files in ./macosx and am attaching a patch to take care of the most important issues. These issues are where the version numbers are hard coded into scripts (5.2 vs 5.3). The patch also adds provisions for the commandtodyesub filter. The two files that have changes are: /macosx/makegutenpkg.sh /macosx/scripts/uninstall-gutenprint.command I don't know the exact build procedure used previously, but there looks like there is stuff that could be discarded. There are references to both CVS and git. I also did not find any instructions on building libusb statically to avoid the need to have libusb on the end user's machine for those with dyesub printers. Hi all, As I go through the Gutenprint code and documentation (both developer and user) to better understand how it works, I've got questions. One that I am most curious about, but is not terribly important, and which I'm convinced I can't get answered any other way than by asking here is: What does 'STP' mean in Gutenprint? It is the prefix for a vast number of variables, types, etc in the code (either in all caps or all lowercase). I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean "standard temperature and pressure", nor "spanning tree protocol", nor "Science, Technology, Performance (as in STP motor fuel additives)". Thanks, Erik |

Hi all, Attached is a little patch to fix some documentation build issues. In particular, it removes long-obsolete command tests that don't actually do anything but give warning messages (openjade and related). It also cleans up and updates the two .dox.in files, removing the long unsupported a4wide option and updating other items to modern dox file requirements. Regards, Erik |

Dear Sirs, for quite a few years I have run the above with your software faultlessly and today it has gone on strike, and I have 2 cartridges left from a friend, who was going to throw it away. I am on macintosh yosemite, with no problem. There seems plenty of life in it. I want to be careful as macintosh seem to change OS s at speed today, so I have to o some planning Please reply quickly as I am moving house this week Yours sincerely Peter Davenport |

Thanks Solomon. I tried the custom size and that didn't work well either. I did wind up with a stop-gap solution by tinkering with the schedule.xml sizes file and recompiling. I'm playing with some better solutions and will share as a patch when I'm happier with the approach. I think you will need to select a "custom" paper size to achieve what you are describing. - Solomon -- Solomon Peachy pizza at shaftnet dot org (email&xmpp) @pizza:shaftnet dot org (matrix) Dowling Park, FL speachy (libera.chat) |

Gutenprint's use of "the translation project" was news to me (not the first time this has happend, and certainly won't be the last), but once I figured out how to synchronize things I was able to pull in all of the pending updates. In theory I've sent in an update request with the latest -pre tarball, and have been added to the notification list for future updates. These changes will appear in a snapshot tarball some time tomorrow. - Solomon -- Solomon Peachy pizza at shaftnet dot org (email&xmpp) @pizza:shaftnet dot org (matrix) Dowling Park, FL speachy (libera.chat) |

Hello, I've translated part of gutenprint 2 years ago, but it seems like it still didn't make to git. https://translationproject.org/domain/gutenprint.html Can anyone help with this, please? Regards, Temuri |

Hi all, Need your help debugging my thinking. I want to print on 17" wide roll paper (using an Epson SureColor P5000). I want the minimum dimension to be 17", so the length will be about 25" with the image's aspect ratio. However, in Gimp using the Gutenprint options, the long dimension is fixed at 17" and greyed out; so the print will be 11"x17". How do I direct Gimp and Gutenprint to print a "long landscape"? What setting am I overlooking? Thanks, Erik |

Sorry to contact you this way, through email, however I wanted to make a report on the fly without too much effort. I bought a canon 2556s and although it doesn't seem to be supported by gutenpring, I was able to make several prints by setting the 2555s driver. I've only been using gutenprint for 1 day, so I'm not an expert, however if to make sure that the old driver is 100% compatible with the new printer, if you report me some tests to do, I'll try to do it. Thanks for gutenprint |

Was struggling for weeks with a rediculously slow printing Laser Jet on OSX10.12 Your driver has worked nicely and will save me countless hours in the future printing PDFs of music which I perform from. I know you know longer support OSX but wanted to say thanks. Donation? Cheers -- - J |

Hi Solomon, I've had an issue in Fedora where user used this driver (it batches whole group of Kyocera printers) with FS-1125MFP, so at least the driver is not utterly broken (if CUPS on the machine is < 2.4.2 or >= 2.4.4, or if OS backported https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups/commit/32572321f ). I've seen some people among CUPS upstream issues using the driver as well, but as you said, the only possible way how to know for sure is to have the model and try the driver in the real environment. It's actually a 5MB download, and it contains a set of tarballs that each contain a pair of CUPS filters/drivers (ie x86/x86_64), the corresponding PPD, and documentation. (Each of those tarballs is self-contained and for a single language. Not sure why they packaged it that way, but whatever) > Take it back, and get something that actually has linux drivers. This printer was first released about a decade ago, targeting corporate/managed printer markets, and was discontinued several years ago. If this person even purchased it at all, it was most likely from from an equipment recycler on an as-is basis. Either way, "returns" are probably not possible. That said, this printer actually _does_ have native Linux drivers, albeit proprietary and only for a couple of architectures. (Oddly enough this download wasn't linked off the main support/download page for that printer, but that's corporate bitrot for you) The odds are those drivers will be sufficient. If not, by far the quickest (and cheapest) path forwards will be to find a different printer, making sure (in advance) that it has a sufficient level of Linux support for their needs. - Solomon -- Solomon Peachy pizza at shaftnet dot org (email&xmpp) @pizza:shaftnet dot org (matrix) Dowling Park, FL speachy (libera.chat) |

I had to accept, now I'll get tons of spam. The printer driver is only a megabyte. so I'm guessing windows actually has a driver it some how downloads and wraps so it runs on linux. That doesn't pass the smell test. Take it back, and get something that actually has linux drivers. Soloman Peachy was right.
