It would be nice to have possibility to use gutenprint with gimp 2.99.6 which is using gtk3
As well it would be good top move to gitlab or gitgub because sf.net does not prodide rest interface to dowanload exact commit patch.

Please separate this into two RFEs.

Have you verified that it does not work with GIMP 2.99/3?

gimp 2.99.x is fully rewryten to use gtk 3.x.
It is not possible to build gutenprint against gtk 3.x.

I'm curious if this is even being considered, as there are fewer and fewer packages still requiring gtk+ 2. It's certainly far from being critical, but I suspect at some point, gtk+ 2 will get deprecated and dropped from distros.

It's not that a gtk3 (and/or a proper gimp3) port isn't being considered, it's that there's nobody with a combination of time, skills, and willingness to do the actual work.

FTR GIMP 3 will be the only GIMP available in Fedora 42 (current rawhide) and the same is planned for Fedora 41 (next stable version), because GIMP 2 blocks Python maintainers from removing Python 2 (after almost 4 years after its EOL). IIUC it currently affects the GutenPrint GIMP plugin, so I had to disable its building for F41+ .
