Comparing the brochures for the two printers, it appears that the MP1600L is supported only under Windows while the MP1600 has broader support. What I suspect is the issue is that the MP1600 is a true PCL printer while the MP1600L uses a custom protocol that isn't documented anywhere. We don't have anyone to work on printers of this type, and it's not likely that we're going to write a driver for it.

Some such printers are supported by the foo2zjs driver, but not all.
