#644 MP610 print problems

I am getting strange printing problems when printing large solid areas. See attached example - this has the original png I'm trying to print, and the results of printing it scanned back in. On the scan you can see vertical lines of green and a large blob of green too.

I'm printing from Ubuntu 11.04 via IPP on my local network to a Debian Wheezy server. The Debian server is runnng CUPS 1.5, Gutenprint 5.2.7.

This happens to a number of things I've tried to print, the connection seems to be large blocks of colour with high red values.

If I shrink the print, the vertical lines dissappear, but not the blobs. If I add noise to the block of red, the problem is much reduced.

I have a MP610, and found no problem printing the attached PNG (wine glass) using plain paper and mode "600x600 DPI" under 5.2.8pre1.

    1) what mode and media setting do you use? I can try to duplicate the trouble.

    2) can you install gutenprint 5.2.8pre1? It may be that the problem was fixed since 5.2.7 (I have done a number of extensions to the driver to more fully support the printer capabilities correctly)
