I'm not sure how cleanly this can be done. The main advantage
would be easy access to your favorite folders and mounted
volumes.

This is a bad idea (TM). better do a Mac OS X GtkFilesystem
backend that makes the new GtkFileChooser dialog show your
favorite folders and mounted volumes. Should be a
straight-forward change in GTK+ that the GTK+ team will
certainly be happy about.

That ought to be cleaner, yes. Maybe someday I'll have all the
dependencies compiled and can try it... ;)
