Currently, gift doesn't obey/use (consistently anyway)
the items --bindir,--datadir,--includedir,--libdir
passed to ./configure. The attached patch addresses that.

Thanks. There's a problem with your suggested solution, unfortunately, namely that the way gift-setup is autogenerated seems to rely on the previous, incorrect behaviour for $giftdatadir. Thus, not being an autotools expert (and unless you have any better ideas), I'm going with the evil solution of just correcting the definition of $plugindir, which I believe should fix the original problem.
