bzip2 is a format which is not developped anymore and which compresses less than xz (lzma). Using xz will help downloading faster the tarball

    I've rtripped over this problem myself. xz is fine for local use when you can always control the implementation yiu use, not so good when yo can't control whivjh options yoour bowser implements.

    then a tarball compressed with raw lzma. It will anyway compressed more than bzip2
