The Gazebo Hub project proposes the concept: That enterprise portal frameworks and enterprise software present opportunities for assisting in community activity, in supporting the development of community social capital and social entrepreneurialism for positive, constructive, and creative community engagement, within local social communities.
The level of individual engagement demonstrated with the evolution of paradigms in online social networking - from the first BBS to the social microblog and interest networks of the social network services industry, today - it may be viewed as a trend indicating a broader potential for further development of community-managed knowledge resources.
Considering the availability of enterprise-grade Java portal frameworks with social networking functionality - such as Liferay and the now historic GateIn UXP - clearly, there is potential for supporting "grassroots" community social entrepreneurialism with the modern Java enterprise architecture.
