Artifex Software, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of GPL
Ghostscript 8.61. This is the second release in the Ghostscript 8.6x
stable series. It contains a number of bug fixes and improvements.
At the same time, we've released GhostPDL 1.51. GhostPDL includes front
ends for the HP PCL/XL and Microsoft XPS page description languages
built on top of the same graphics library, supporting rasterization and
conversion of these formats in addition to the Postscript and PDF
languages supported by Ghostscript. The XPS implementation is currently in beta. For more information about this release, please visit
Artifex Software, Inc. is pleased to announe the release of GPL Ghostscript 8.60. This is the first in a new stable series.
The major milestone of this release is a merge from the ESP Ghostscript fork, used to support the CUPS printing system. This means that free operating systems can now ship a single copy of upstream Ghostscript with their releases. Thanks to Till Kamppeter and Mike Sweet for making this possible.... read more
Our latest stable release is now available.
Artifex Software, Inc. and artofcode LLC are pleased to announce the release of GPL Ghostscript 8.57. This is a stable release in the 8.5x series.
In addition to the usual bug fixes, there are specific performance and quality improvements in the areas of patterns, shading and image filtering. Also new in this release is an implementation of the Well Tempered Screening algorithm in an output device, using Graeme Gill's IMDI library for efficient color mapping.... read more
A somewhat belated announcement here, but since the 8.54 release, we have done our development under the GNU GPL instead of the more restrictive AFPL license. All non-commercial releases since that time have been GPL-only.
AFPL Ghostscript 8.53 is the fourth stable release following 8.50.
This release is mostly the same as 8.52, but a late report of build problems on Window64/AMD64 and a potential SEGV in DEBUG mode mandated this release.
The 8.53 release also includes a rendering performance enhancement for PDF's with transparency (10x to 90x on files with many small transparency regions/groups).
The 8.52 features included in 8.53 are:
Contains numerous bug fixes and improvements, particularly in the area DeviceN (spot color) handling and the PDF interpreter. ... read more
This is the third stable release in the 8.5x series of Ghostscript.
It contains numerous bug fixes and improvements, particularly in the
area DeviceN (spot color) handling and the PDF interpreter.
The pdfwrite device can now create PDF/X-3 compliant documents
using the lib/PDFX_def.ps prefix approach. See doc/Ps2pdf.htm documentation.
Also new is a Beta version level 2 Postscript output device, ps2write,
which generates high-level PostScript including text and images and
graphics. We encourage its use instead of the older pswrite when Level 2
PostScript is desired. Please send any comments or problem reports to
or submit it to http://bugs.ghostscript.com.... read more
As of Sunday Febuary 16, 2003, we've moved our bug database to a private tracker at http://bugs.ghostscript.com/
Please see the new site for updates on your bugs, or to enter any new ones. Bugs originally entered in the SourceForge tracker have the same number at the new site.
Artifex Software Inc. and artofcode LLC are pleased to announce the release of Ghostscript 8.00, the most comprehensive software solution for page description languages. Ghostscript is a leader in PDF, PostScript, and PCL technologies. Ghostscript 8.00 features the following new capabilities:
With the 8.00 release, Ghostscript now offers true DeviceN color space support, natively rendering spot colors, multicolor images, and gradient effects up to 8 color planes. DeviceN also affords direct and precise control over ink balances in large format inkjet devices. Ghostscript currently powers inkjet RIPs from Best Color GmbH, Xerox XES (in partnership with Caldera Graphics), MacDermid/ColorSpan, and Mutoh

Artifex Software and artofcode LLC are pleased to announce the 7.33 beta release of AFPL Ghostscript. This release fixes some problems in the file permissions logic, as well as other minor changes. It is the third and final beta leading up to the 8.0 release.
We are pleased to announce the 7.32 beta release of AFPL Ghostscript. There are two major new features: Well Tempered Screening now works, even for 0 and 45 angle screens. See News.htm for details. Also, Russell Lang has fixed a longstanding usability problem: Encapsulated PostScript files are now recognized, and a "showpage" is added if missing. This fixes the problem of an EPS file displaying, but not saving as a file.... read more
We are pleased to announce the 7.31 beta release of AFPL Ghostscript. The major new feature is DeviceN color spaces, supporting mixes of spot colors and process colors up to 8 colorants total. Many other bugfixes and performance enhancements have been added, especially in pdfwrite. We encourage you to try this release and give us feedback, so we can make 8.0 the best release possible.
In preparation for the AFPL Ghostscript 8.0 release, Artifex
Software, Inc., and artofcode LLC are pleased to announce a "bug
bounty" program. Basically, for each bug you fix, you get $500. We
hope that this program will improve the quality of the 8.0 release,
increase community participation, and give a little something back to
the corps of volunteers who help with the Ghostscript testing and bug
fixing process. We currently have almost 100 bugs in the tracker, and
would like to get that as close to zero as possible.... read more
The current developer release is 7.22. This release contains a number of pdfwrite fixes, particularly for incremental fonts. The DeviceN work was not ready for merge at the time of the release, so we expect it in the next.
The release is available from the usual SourceForge and Wisconson locations:
artofcode LLC and Artifex software are pleased to announce the 7.21 developer release of AFPL Ghostscript. This release, while a development snapshot, should be reasonably stable, thanks to our regression testing processes.
This is the last snapshot before the DeviceN integration, and also Peter's pdfwrite font copying improvements.
Thanks to everyone for their ongoing help with Ghostscript.
The release can be downloaded from the usual SourceForge and Wisconsin sites:... read more
artofcode LLC and Artifex Software Inc. are pleased to announce the release of AFPL Ghostscript version 7.04. This release is a security update and maintenance release in the 7.0x branch. In addition to the security fixes, we have also added an autoconf script and support for IJS printer drivers, both of which should make installing and configuring Ghostscript easier for most users.
Thanks to everyone who helped with this release.
We're pleased to announce a new release of GNU Ghostscript version 6.52. This is a maintenence release, mostly minor bugfixes.
In particular, the build issues with glibx 2.2 on linux have been resolved.
Thanks to everyone who contributed.
artofcode LLC and Artifex Software Inc. are pleased to announce the release of AFPL Ghostscript version 7.03. This release is a maintenance release in the 7.0x branch. Numerous bug fixes and performance enhancements are included. We heartily recommend that you upgrade.
We hope that this will be the last release in the 7.0x branch. With this release, the CVS tree becomes a development branch again.
Thanks to everybody who helped on this release.
We are pleased to announce the release of GNU Ghostscript 6.51. This release makes available the new features of the 6.xx series to the entire GNU community.
This release contains all of the bug fixes committed to the stable branch since the 6.50 release. In addition, it contains integration for the HPIJS and Omni driver suites.
As of this release, the GS_6_5 branch in SourceForge CVS is covered under the GPL. Fixes and integration patches may be committed here, while active development of Ghostscript continues in the HEAD branch.... read more
artofcode LLC and Artifex Software Inc. are pleased to announce the release of AFPL Ghostscript version 7.00. Notable new features include embedded ICC color profiles, support for the PDF 1.4 transparency and blending imaging model, and a new API for invoking Ghostscript from other applications.
Traditionally, at the time of each major AFPL release, there is a corresponding GPL release of the previous major release. This time, we plan to release 6.51 under the GPL, even though it contains significant features (particularly in PDF generation) over 6.01. The
6.51 release is scheduled for later this month so we have time to make sure the release will be fully polished.... read more
AFPL Ghostscript 6.63 is now available in the gs-beta package of the AFPL Ghostscript project. This is the second beta in the series leading up to 7.0. The stability should be a lot better than 6.62, especially for Windows users.
PDF 1.4 rendering is integrated with all devices. At this
point, I know of no Ghostscript user testing with PDF 1.4 documents. If you know of any, please let me know.
For Linux/Unix/X users, please try the following invocation for aa rendering, rather than the broken x11alpha device:... read more
AFPL Ghostscript 6.62 is now available in the gs-beta package of the AFPL Ghostscript project. This is the first beta in the series leading up to 7.0.
The major new features are ICC profile support and a new shared library (DLL) interface. PDF 1.4 rendering will continue to be developed through the beta period.
The Ghostscript development team appreciates your testing and bug reports!
I'm pleased to announce the 6.61 developer release of AFPL
Ghostscript. The big news in this release is continuing development of
the PDF 1.4 transparency and blending imaging model. This release
supports all blending modes, in addition to both isolated and
non-isolated groups, and knockout groups. The latter is noteworthy
because of its need for two alpha channels (one for opacity, one for
shape). The big feature missing is masks, but it should be possible to
play with this release anyway. If you're interested in looking at the
PDF 1.4 rendering code, most of the action is in gdevpnga.c and
gxblend.c.... read more
The Ghostscript 6.60 developer release was made at the stroke of the new
year, but due to communications snafus and SourceForge problems,
hasn't been released until now. This release is on a separate branch
from the 6.50 stable release. The main changes are PDF writer updates.
L. Peter Deutsch retired from active Ghostscript development work
at the same time that the 6.60 release was made. It is thus something
of a historical landmark in Ghostscript development.... read more

Inc. are pleased to announce the release of AFPL
Ghostscript version 6.50. This is primarily a maintenance
release from the 6.01 public release from the beginning
of this year. It supersedes both AFPL Ghostscript 6.01
and the Artifex supported OEM version 6.12. In addition
to a number of bug fixes, there have been major
