Unfortunately, KGI isn't in the linux kernel and DRI/DRM is. Now that it has almost finished re-implementing half of what KGI was ten years ago, it might be a passable candidate for a LibGGI target and helper set, along the lines of that general-fbdev + specialized Matrox driver that Marcus developed back in the nineties. All the register/DMA data for just about every graphics card out there is freely available now, so it should be possible to do a real bang-up job on it all. And with the linvtsw helper, the DRM people don't even have to worry about integratring modesetting like they were discussing - we can handle all of that ourselves in userspace....
