The attached getTunes.java has a fix for the "ERROR: Selection
contains non-shared music" problem with getTunes and iTunes 4.7.
It has not been tested with any other versions of iTunes.
Put it in the source folder (replacing the existing getTunes.java). The
you can open the XCode project, and build getTunes. The newly built
version will be found in the build folder of the source folder.

when i click "download" all i get is the code in a safari browser -- i
assume i need it to appear in file form somewhere on my desktop to get
it to work. any ideas on what might be wrong/what i'm doing wrong?

Ok, for everybody who is having problems, try the following procedure:
1. Make sure you have Xcode installed (I am using Xcode 1.5, not sure
what version of Xcode it will work with).
2. Copy the source folder from the disk image to some location on a real
disk.
3. Download my version getTunes.java into source folder you put on a
real disk, replacing the version in that folder. For those who see the
source code in their browser window when click on the link, right-click
(ctrl-click) on the link and select "Download linked file as..." (Safari) or
something similar.
4. In the source folder on your disk, double-click getTunes.xcode. This
should start up Xcode with the getTunes project selected.
5. In Xcode, click the build button at the top of the window (a hammer
icon).
6. You should see a status bar near the top of the Xcode window, when it
reads "Build succeeded" you can exit Xcode.
7. In the build folder in the source folder that you put on your disk, you
should see a new getTunes app, move to where ever you like and use it.
Other general comments:
I am not the developer of getTunes, just a user who found that it wasn't
working, so I fixed it for myself and posted the fix here. As such, I have
no desire to post a binary version. If the getTunes developer chooses to
incorporate my fix, and post a new version that would be great.
The only modification I made was to line 350 of getTunes.java, where I
changed the AppleScript to be run to "pause\n selection of front window".
Good luck,
Marc

The person who created this app is offering this as an incredibly
awesome utility for us to use - FOR FREE!!!
I think we all need to remember this. I don't think anyone has paid for
this app, have they?
I for one am going to be patient and wait for a new version, which I
assume is in the works.
I also assume that Marcii is the one who created the app or at least
knows how to fix it. So if it is Marcii, I would just like to say, THANK
YOU for writing such a cool app and allowing me to do something that
Apple doesn't want us to do but should be able to do anyway, but that's
another issue altogether.
If this app were to cost money I would gladly plop down the money for
it.
So for those of you who don't know how to write apps or fix apps or
follow directions, just sit tight and wait, I'm sure it will be coming soon.
And to the "nobody" who says "this needs to get fixed or the
crap is going to hit the fan." RELAX! Take a chill pill and wait for this
FREE app to get updated, or try the fix, either way, who are you to be
demanding that this be fixed? Who are you?
I think if we use this app we can at least be a little patient and wait for
the fix.
Thanks to whoever it is that makes this app, it's awesome and I hope it
stays FREE!

hey, well im sure the fix worked great for all you guys, but unfortunatly,
i dont have xcode, i was wondering if any body out there knows of a way
to fix this bug with out using xcode, or if possibly one of all you people
you did get it to work, would like to put the newly created gettunes
online some where to be downloaded, it would be greatly apreciated so i
can continue to download hundreds of non-copywrited songs on my lan...
