What I believe is happening here is that GIT is running out
of memory. I found that if you add too many files in a
single session, the list will exceed the maximum amount of
memory Java provides, resulting in a crash that may destroy
your library file (the XML, not the actual music) and your
settings file. There are 2 workarounds: add your music in
sections or increase the amount of memory available to Java.
Adding the music in sections is probably easier since this
is a one-time thing. To do this, add a subset of your
music, then close and reopen GIT before adding the next
section. This will help to relieve the memory problem. To
actually fix it, you need to launch GIT with the batch file.
Modify the command line to include the parameter "-Xmx128M"
and you should be able to add all the music in one session.
Note that this may be a bad idea if you have less than 512
MB of RAM.
