Hello all: Is there any support in geotools for something akin to the following: I have a very large shapefile containing many layers (stored on the server). I wish to render it on a remote client (over a relatively slow communications link). The remote client may be configured to only have a small visible window (say 300x300 pixels). At this size, at a certain zoom level, depending on the features, very little of the shapefile is actually visible, For example, if I have two layers property parcels, and neighborhoods - if I am displaying the entire county none of the parcel information would actually be visible/usable, but as I zoom in, very little of the neighborhood boundaries are visible, but the parcels will "come into view". What I would like to do is have the client request a "sample" from the server for a given area, at a certain visible resolution (300x300), so the server would subsample the polygons to only return the visible portion, yet the map viewer would still be able to retain the interactive capabilities (rather than having the server return a static image). If the user panned or zoomed, a new request would be sent to the server to get the area of interest - preventing the loading of the entire shapefile on the client. Is something like this supported with geotools? If so, is there a sample I can review? Thanks, Robert Engels |
