That would certainly help people reviewing your patches.
A patch should always be made available for trunk first, and then if you
want, for backports on older series.
Mind, small bug fixes are backported to older branches as a normal thing,
for large invasive ones or new features,
backports have to be voted by the project management committee on the
mailing list.
