[Geotools-gt2-users] StyledMapPane replacement

I'm working on converting a code base from GeoTools 2.1M2 to 2.5M2. The
code that I currently have uses the StyledMapPane
(org.geotools.gui.swing). 

This class doesn't exist in the current version, is JMapPane its
replacement?

If so, I see that the map pane module is marked "unsupported". How
mature is this module? Is there any documentation on it?
