For anyone who might not have seen this on the OGC list. Ian ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Carl Reed OGC Account <cr...@op...> Date: Feb 28, 2006 3:37 PM Subject: Re: [Tc] EPSG Update announcement - new version and name change To: Technical Committee <tc...@op...> *EPSG geodetic parameter dataset v6.9 release * Version 6.9 of the EPSG geodetic parameter dataset has been released and ma= y be downloaded without charge from *www.epsg.org*. This release contains a number of additions to data in the previous v6.8 (October 2005) release, as well as the following: - Changes as documented in Change table records through 2006.19, but with actions still remaining on some earlier change requests. - Transformations published by the US National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) for oceanic islands not previously included in the EPSG dataset, together with datums and coordinate reference systems upon whic= h these transformations are dependent, have now been included. - Transformation accuracy field entries for NGA and certain other transformations have been revised. - Area table records for maritime countries based on ISO 3166 have had their area of use clarified to cover the whole country, both onshore and offshore. Where appropriate separate country and sub-country onshore rec= ords have been added to the area table, with some datum, coordinate reference system and coordinate operation records amended to refer to these record= s rather than the ISO country record. The geographic bounding box and transformation accuracy data were added in prior version 6.8 to assist the selection of transformation variant. Betwee= n any pair of coordinate reference systems, many transformations *may* exist. The primary criteria for determining which, if any, of the variants is most appropriate for use is given in text comment within the Scope, Area of Use, and Remarks fields. These free-form text fields are difficult for computer software to analyze. The geographic bounding box values may be used to exclude variants from consideration. The transformation accuracy values may be used to rank variants. Further comment on using these data is given in *Guidance Note 7 part 1 <http://www.epsg.org/guides/G7-1.html>* =96 *Use of the EPSG Geodetic Parameter Dataset. *As in previous releases the v6.9 dataset is available in two forms: either an MS Access database which also includes a data reporting capability, or a= s a series of SQL scripts for populating an alternative relational database application. The former European Petroleum Survey Group (EPSG) has been reformed as the Surveying and Positioning Committee of the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (OGP). Similarly, the former EPSG Geodesy Working Group i= s now the Geodesy Subcommittee of the OGP Surveying and Positioning Committee= . This Geodesy Subcommittee continues with the same members as the previous EPSG Geodesy Working Group. This OGP Geodesy Subcommittee will continue to maintain the EPSG dataset. The dataset will continue to be known as the EPS= G (geodetic parameter) dataset.
