IRC Feedback Hey, I just read the irc logs from the 11th, and thought I'd chime in a bit, as I was quoted. Fairly accurately, but with a few tweaks. Though before SLD stuff, I really must say we should just put out 2.1, and not wait for grid coverage to settle. Because there is _always_ going to be something new, that needs to settle. I think we need to change our release process. I keep meaning to write up a whole, solid proposal on this. And will try to soon. But basically we need to make our point releases a lot tighter. Grid Coverage should be 2.2. A new SLD parser for 2.3. Factories should have been a point release. Not going 2.1.0 soon is a big mistake. We have a ton of great code, that wasn't available in 2.0. A ton. I also think that moving to faster release cycles will make us a lot more conscious of backwards compatibility. It will be obvious if things are breaking, instead of the disaster of GeoServer on 2.0 and udig on 2.1. We should only move forward with a point release when we have commitment from every major project. Everything should be on a branch before that. And on its own branch. Ok, enough rambling, but please, we need to push out a 2.1 release soon. I will do what I can to help make that happen. But I think right now it's far more important to get it out then to make sure _all_ areas are settled. We should just mark gc as settling, or perhaps even not include it in the release. And if things need to change a lot put it on a branch. I think it should come back pretty quick, as GeoServer 1.4 should come soon after 1.3, as Alessio's doing great work on the branch (notice he's on a branch ;) for wcs). Ok, just for Jody I'll split these up into separate emails. Next one will be sld parsing. ---------------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: https://webmail.limegroup.com/ |
