It is really a low level library - if you want a server app try
GeoServer; if you want to play with users try uDig - but if you want to hack
the virtual world GeoTools is the library for you.

That is impressive; you sorted out all the dependencies? Ah you probably
got them included with the src download (ha ha did not even think of that).

GML is tough; try the stuff here:
You got a range from SAX/DOM to interesting stuff like FCBuffer (from
the WFS datastore code) or new cool stuff on trunk....

Try user's list, and then test cases (I am afraid the documentation is
out of touch, or non existing for GML).

This is open source - you get a quick response, but support costs you
(ie update a wiki page, share example code on the wiki when you get it
to work etc...)
