This work has already been done on a branch and I hope to be integrating
it soon. I have needed to do a couple of minor changes to the PostGIS
datastore (mainly casting into the proper JDBCDataStore class). And also
found a couple of bugs in some other JDBC* classes.
Oh yeah, all this work was done so that the HSQL db support can be added
(it doesn't fully support the JDBC2.optional package, no connectionPools).
