The proper way is to subscribe to the geoserver users list and ask

I'm not aware of any, but it's difficult to say:
* NAD 27 is too generic a definition, a simple query on
spatialreference.org returns like various pages of candidate epsg codes:
* are you reprojecting the data to another SRS? I can't think of a way
to make data offset serving it into its native SRS.
* how are you evaluating the shift? Do you have some reference data?
