#17 ArcGIS Server Harvest

Geoportal (20)

Adding an ArcGIS Server resource did not behave as I expected. While the REST API is added and searchable, I expected individual map services to be registered as separate individual resources within Geoportal. This would be a useful enhancement.

    hi David,

have you followed the instructions in: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/geoportal/index.php?title=How_to_Publish_Resources ? To harvest and ArcGIS Server, use the 'register a resource on the network' dialog and then use the 'ArcGIS' option. Be sure to provide both REST and SOAP endpoints. This is needed to allow geoportal to crawl the services in the server.

    hope this helps,

    Hi Marten,

Just to clarify, when I crawl the NGDC ArcGIS Service and ESRI Sample ArcGIS Server endpoints using the ArcGIS option and included REST/SOAP URLs it appears that I successfully harvest the REST/SOAP service endpoints as a single record. So for example, I can successfully search and retrieve the service endpoint, but the individual map services do not appear to be harvested or appear as documents within geoportal in the version I am running (downloaded in December). Clicking on the icon 'Show documents acquired from this resource' returns no matching records.

Please let me know if I have missed something.

    Thanks, Dave

can you share the NGDC ArcGIS Server url? also, when registering, you will need to ensure the option 'Allow this resource to be synchronized at an interval' is checked and that you choose an interval (manual synchronization is default).

to schedule the site for synchronization (if you don't want to wait for the schedule to kick in), click the 'Synchronize content' icon (the one with the 2 down arrows) for the ArcGIS Server in the manage metadata page.
