Object symbols

In this article we'll cover the symbols used in GEOMS2.

Objects

Each object type has its own symbol in GEOMS2. This symbol will appear in many places. It will appear in the import button that refer to that object. It will appear in the drop file menu when you drag and drop a file into GEOMS2, and finally it will appear in the object manager to identify the type of object. The objects are the following:

For point object.

For mesh (grid) object.

For surface (surf) object.

For non-spatial data (data) object.

Object manager

In the object manager if you notice on your left (followed by name of the object and preceded by the "+" - expand - button) you'll see a symbol. From this symbol I can say that on the picture to the left. The first object is a point object, the second a mesh, third a non-spatial data, a fourth a surface.

Functions

Each functions has also its own image. For instance a crop function will have the same image for both point and mesh and surface although it operates differently for each object (in terms of algorithm I mean). This implies that the same finality of one object can be attained on the other. The name will also remain the same with a few exceptions. For instance you have a specific symbol for converting objects to other types of objects. Maybe you're converting data to point or point to data but the image remains the same for the function convert.

Where did we get this

It's important to say that the large majority of images in the software were not made by us but actually gathered from freely available resources on the net. All images in software have a free to use license (whatever it may be). On the home page of GEOMS2 you have a title specifically explaining how to check the author, origin and license (among other info) for each of the images.
