I don't know if this is already available through the .gentoogtkrc file, but I belive it should be available through the configuration gui too.
I wrote five or six years ago a patch for it. It adds some GUI buttons in "File Recognition -> Styles" pane to select alternate foreground and background colors, an alternate icon as well. I don't remember whether was finished and sent to Emil, though.
@cosoleto, i wasn't talking about custom colors for types (i believe that's already possible from the gui), but this GtkTreeView property (which is what i think is being used in gentoo, i could be wrong!):
