#2 reserved characters in xml input data

XML has the following reserved characters with escape
sequences:

quote (") --> \"
apostrophe (') --> '
ampersand (&) --> &
less than (<) --> &lt;
greater than (>) --> &gt;
slash (\) --> \\
space --> No escape required

At the present time, the Genome Catalogue does not
escape reserved characters in the input form data, and
using these characters will cause an error in the
application.

introduce escape functions to escape characters in xml
instance & xml schema documents
