A wiki has been created for the GenPACK project and can be accessed from http://genpack.wiki.sourceforge.net/.
The GenPACK project aims to develop a Genealogy application using DOCX and XML technology. Use of DOCX enables ‘mail merge’ style fields to be used that are bound to the encapsulated XML.
A paper entitled "It’s All Relative, but is GEDCOM still a member of the family?" is being developed as part of the research for the GENPACK project.
A draft version will be available on 12/01/09, although the final version is not due for completion until the 20/04/09 and multiple versions may be uploaded in between these dates.
The paper aims to prove the thesis that it would be more effective to have a separate file for each individual, family, event or group, using an OPC package encapsulating XML and any other (source) files relating to that object – rather than having one GEDCOM file for the whole database that links to external files.
This paper is due to be presented at the 5th Annual Information Technology Research Conference, University of Bournemouth, England.
