Genode OS Framework release 20.08

The most preeminent feature of the current release is the port of the Falkon browser an incarnation of the Chromium web engine to Genode. In preparation, much effort went into the stabilization of the C runtime to cover obscure corner cases of POSIX, sensible integration of third-party build systems, solving instruction-cache invalidation issues on ARM, and the elimination of other obstacles. Less visible but a major improvement for stability and versatility of the user interface is the profound redesign of the low-level GUI stack that removes drivers for graphics and input from the trusted computing base. The architectural change lays the groundwork for swapping out drivers on the fly without reboot. It also paves the ground for features like screen capturing and remote desktop scenarios in a privacy-protecting way.

Further, we extended the CBE block encrypter by pluggable crypto and trust anchor, continued our work to bring the driver support for i.MX 8M platform on par with Intel PCs, and improved the runtime CPU affinity addressing interactive use cases like Sculpt OS.

The complete picture is presented in the release documentation.
