Hormone-stimulated lipolysis is a rapid way to mobilize fat from its storage depot for use in peripheral tissues. There are two types of lipid degradation pathways (lipid catabolic processes).
1-Cytosolic lipolysis: breakdown of lipid droplets and hydrolysis of stored triglycerids occur through the orchestrated activation of cytosolic lipases mediated by hormones.
2- Autophagy-mediated lysosomal lipid degradation (lipophagy). lipid droplets are delivered to the vacuole though the autophagosome.
We have now the term 'lipophagy' (GO:0061724).
However, to annotate the proteins involved in the specific signaling of lipolysis, we need the corresponding regulation terms:
regulation of lipophagy
positive regulation of lipophagy
negative regulation of lipophagy.
Thanks a lot
Marc.
Hi Marc,
Go ahead and assign the autophagy terms directly to me. I will add these via termgenie this morning.
