GO:0090110 - cargo loading into COPII-coated vesicle (biological_process)
Definition: "The formation of a protein complex between the COPII coat proteins and proteins that are going to be transported by the COPII vesicle to the Golgi."

This def means that annotations to
cargo loading into COPII-coated vesicle
slim to "protein complex assembly".

Is the binding of a cargo receptor to a signal sequence classes as a type of "protein complex assembly"
this seems a little strange, and has consequences for lots of complex/substrate interactions

Maybe OK, by analogy to the purine nucleotide metabolism and nicotinamide metabolism is_a parents of glycolysis. Glycolysis requires metabolic changes in ADP/ATP and in NAD(P)+/NAD(P)H even though its "purpose" is catabolism of glucose. Here, the binding event is not the "purpose" but is required for loading to occur.

This seems ok to me, Val. There may be other cases where it's less clear but this particular term seems fine.
