No

A narrow synonym for the term
GO:0016303 1-phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase activity
is
phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase activity, class III

and has a single child:
GO:0046935 1-phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase regulator activity
but a narrow synonym of this child is:
phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, class I, regulator activity

which is contradictory, because a Class I PI3K activity cannot be a child of a Class III activity?
Or do I misunderstand?

    Hi Paul,

I think this is ok. Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase activity, class III is a narrow synonym of GO:0016303, so it is a more specific type of enzyme that carries out the molecular function of GO:0016303. Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, class I, regulator activity is a narrow synonym of GO:0046935 is also more specific than the primary term. The is_a relation doesn't have to hold between the narrow synonyms, only between the primary terms. So all 1-phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase regulator activities do in fact regulate some 1-phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase activity, but the relation doesn't have to hold true that all phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, class I, regulator activities have to regulate some phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, class III activity.

If they were exact synonyms, we would either have to change the synonym scope or look at the ontology.

Let me know if this doesn't make sense.
