The cAMP-dependent protein kinase regulatory subunit alpha b in ZFIN (prkar2ab) is mapped via spkw2go (SP_KW:KW-0418) to GO:0016301 'kinase activity'. The regulatory subunits of protein kinase A (in any species) do not have kinase activity themselves...they regulate the kinase activity inherent in the PKA catalytic subunits.

The proper mapping might be 'regulation of kinase activity' (GO:0043549)

Note this is a process mapping replacing the existing function mapping for this SPKW. I can't think of a good function mapping for this domain.

    ----------------------
I also see that our prkar2ab gene is mapped to 'protein amino acid phosphorylation' by interpro2go mapping from:
    IPR002373
    IPR012198
Like the above function issue, this mapping could be made more specific (at least for fish vertebrate PKA R subunits) if it were mapped to GO:0001932: regulation of protein amino acid phosphorylation. Though the current mapping of these two IPR IDs isn't incorrect, it is less specific than it could be perhaps?

    Hi Doug,

I'm going to move these questions to the annotation tracker, and create a new item for the interpro2go one (spkw2go and interpro2go items get assigned to different people).

    Hi Doug,

    Did this get fixed?

    Cheers

Q6NW93 still has two GO annotations derived from KW-0418.
Have submitted to the UniProt helpdesk.
