I write in French. I tried writing a short test article with this great plugin, but it refused compiling, until I figured out I needed to add this line at the top:

\usepackage{ucs}

Please include that line by default in this gedit plugin so that international users benefit. Let me know what you think.

    Normally "\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}" should do the job. Do you know when you need "\usepackage{ucs}"?

    Uh finally it does compile without it. It's just that I did not notice because:
    - there was a crapload of errors displaying in the log window, which were scary
    - there is NO indication whatsoever that the process completed successfully
    - the PDF is not opened automatically after compiling

    I think it would be important to add either #2 or #3 as new features.
