#672 create, rename, delete files in file browser

Adam Dingle

I'd love to be able create, rename and delete files in Geany's file browser.

I know there's a Tree Browser plugin that has these capabilities, but it's clunky and buggy. Would you accept a patch which added these operations to the base file browser? Or do you feel they don't belong there, and I should work to stabilize the Tree Browser instead?

Adam, in general the file browser is for just that, Geany is not a file manager application and it would be a waste of devs time to try to duplicate all the effort that has gone into external file manager applications, when each desktop environment has at least one such application.

On the other hand treebrowser is a non-core plugin, and we don't try to tell people how to spend their time on their own plugins, so its there for people like you that do want to add extra capability.

So short answer is best to spruce up treebrowser if you want more filemanager actions, but you should also take over maintainership, currently it is orphaned, and orphaned plugins will be removed in the next release. Just post to ML.

OK Lex, thanks for the quick feedback and clarification on your position. I'm closing this bug, and I'll also post to the mailing list saying I'd like to take over maintaining the tree browser since I'd like to see some improvements there.
